Thank you for your continued prayers these past several months as we navigated the difficult season of a closed classroom. We are thrilled to report that, after nearly five months of lockdown, school has officially re-opened!
We’ve been allowed to “soft open” similar to last summer. This time, we have the added benefit of a bit more time with each class (1 ½ hours per group vs. 50 minutes last summer). Our adjunct professors are now permitted to come in to teach as well.
We’re particularly glad for the seniors. Graduation is a few short months away, and the seniors will now get to enjoy the classroom experience during their final term. That said, the common phenomena of “senioritis” can also exist inside the confines of Waupun. The seniors are looking ahead to their post-graduation plans with anticipation. Some have remarked how this is the first time in their lives they’ve ever finished anything. For most, it’s the first time they’ve dreamt about their futures.
Plans for the program’s first-ever graduation ceremony are beginning to take shape. Recently, two of our board members met with the former Wisconsin Department of Corrections Secretary, Jon Litscher, who shared the state’s continued enthusiasm for the program. There’s particular anticipation around the future of the seniors as they are sent out into the Wisconsin prison system post-graduation. We’re looking forward to a wonderful celebration this summer.
